Abstract
Many managers use models to understand the main processes of their companies but also to take the right decisions to enhance the performances. Numerous researches have been carried out on enterprise modeling through the last decades. Most of the times, they propose several modeling techniques making it difficult for managers to choose the suitable model for their enterprises. In this paper we analyze the design of an enterprise model to set up the characteristics it should have to meet the modeler needs. The functional analysis is an important step of the design process of new products. The objective is to determine the elements of the product environment and to extract the functions the product is meant to fulfill. First, we conducted a functional analysis through which the model is considered as the system to be studied. Then we stated the elements of the environment of this system and we enumerated the functions linking the system to its environment. To illustrate our method, we applied it to the case of a Supply Chain Management model. In our future research we will apply this method to other process models such as Product Lifecycle Management models, Customer relationship Management models and Knowledge management models.
