Abstract
Today a wide range of approaches is at hand to support tasks in the development of more sustainable products. However methods and tools available provide only punctual support for decision-making, whereas a holistic approach is required. In the course of this research, current decision support in sustainable product design has been analyzed from a design engineer’s
perspective. Based on 48 methods and tools a taxonomy of methods was built to facilitate a complementary combination that covers the entire development process. For validation of the approach nine methods and tools have been systematically selected and applied in a case study. By identification of information gaps improvement measures for selecting and applying methods in the perspective of decision-making could be derived.
